I was not a fan of The Rainbow Fish。 The story is supposed to be a story of sharing。 The story is about a fish who must give away his beautiful scales to make friends。 Children should not be taught they must give away parts of themselves for people to like them。
karen vega puga,
This is a great book to talk about being nice。 If you are not nice to others no onw will want to be your friend。 No one will want to be around and lonely。
Elliot's Mama,
The classic story of the beautiful fish who learns to share。 Elliot enjoyed it。 Looking forward to reading it again when we do a fish theme in the fall。*library book。 Read at 21 months

I don't feel like you should have to change yourself to make others happy, and so, I don't like the message of the book。 I also don't entirely believe in sharing, so I wasn't a fan。 I don't feel like you should have to change yourself to make others happy, and so, I don't like the message of the book。 I also don't entirely believe in sharing, so I wasn't a fan。 。。。more

This book I have come back to again and again for many topics to teach preschool: social/emotional and relationship building, interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships, and ocean study。 There is a lot to learn with Rainbow Fish and their experience learning being excluded from having a lot of pride on physical appearances。

This is a book about Friendship and sharing。 I think it also teaches the importance of connecting with others。 People are more important than possessions and that what's on the inside is more important that what's on the outside。 I have read many harsh reviews of this book but I felt that the lessons were good。 I read this book to my child。 recommend。 This is a book about Friendship and sharing。 I think it also teaches the importance of connecting with others。 People are more important than possessions and that what's on the inside is more important that what's on the outside。 I have read many harsh reviews of this book but I felt that the lessons were good。 I read this book to my child。 recommend。 。。。more

。。。more
Erica Selby,
This book has an awful message and is one of the only books I have ever bought with high reviews that I had to stop reading to my children, while reading aloud。 I don’t know who would ever be ok with a book that says that a person had to share parts of their body for others to like them。 We should never teach our kids this! There may have been a better meaning behind this, but it was not executed well。 Really beautiful pictures, such a disappointment。
Gabriel,
I re-read this just to see if it still stood up。 It doesn't。。。it's the same issue with The Giving Tree。 Teaching kids to give up more than they can handle losing。 There's a fine line to walk between being helpful and being altruistic。 (Though it's really weird to see people interpreting this as socialist propaganda haha, I don't really think that is what it is。) I re-read this just to see if it still stood up。 It doesn't。。。it's the same issue with The Giving Tree。 Teaching kids to give up more than they can handle losing。 There's a fine line to walk between being helpful and being altruistic。 (Though it's really weird to see people interpreting this as socialist propaganda haha, I don't really think that is what it is。) 。。。more

This is a very melancholic tail。The perspective from a fish helps to shed light on the perspective of being a fish, it does seem quite fishy to me if not tasteful。 The rainbow fish clearly didn't want to share his fins。 But the unsavoury ending where he gives all his scales away hints at disregarding personal autonomy to please others。 I often find the fish seen in everyday lack any sort of individuality, but the shear beautifully of this fish makes up for the bland taste of boiled basa。 I'm sti This is a very melancholic tail。The perspective from a fish helps to shed light on the perspective of being a fish, it does seem quite fishy to me if not tasteful。 The rainbow fish clearly didn't want to share his fins。 But the unsavoury ending where he gives all his scales away hints at disregarding personal autonomy to please others。 I often find the fish seen in everyday lack any sort of individuality, but the shear beautifully of this fish makes up for the bland taste of boiled basa。 I'm still salty about this book, just like the salt on your fish and chips, how dare you eat this rainbow fish?! The Rainbow Fish is a classic children's book that offers a visually appealing story with a great message。 It has a universal message that teaches children that by giving you can gain friendships。 The fish in the story shares his most prized possession, a rainbow scale and by doing so got to make many more friends。 With this book I would teach children to develop their skills with sharing and this book would also allow them to broaden their thinking about the world。 The Rainbow Fish is a classic children's book that offers a visually appealing story with a great message。 It has a universal message that teaches children that by giving you can gain friendships。 The fish in the story shares his most prized possession, a rainbow scale and by doing so got to make many more friends。 With this book I would teach children to develop their skills with sharing and this book would also allow them to broaden their thinking about the world。 。。。more

The story, The Rainbow Fish, emphasizes not only the importance of sharing, but the pleasure that comes from giving。 It teaches children that happiness can’t be obtained by privilege, but rather in what you share with others。 I would use this story to promote social emotional learning。
Sami Pratt,
The Rainbow fish by Marcus Pfister is a book about a unique fish with shiny silver scales。 All of the other fish is the sea are jealous and ask him to give them scales。 They admire his beauty。 At first, Rainbow Fish is very hesitant but eventually finds happiness in sharing his scales with others。 This book tells a great message to younger students about sharing。 Really bright colors that keep kids engaged! He uses the glitter shiny scales as texture in the text。
